Hello foodie friends! I'm so excited because it's *finally* starting to cool down out here in Portland. Our weather has been atrociously hot this summer, so having a little bit of cloud coverage and temps in the 70s is awesome! For today's post, I wanted to share with you some of my inherited salt & pepper collection that I got when my grandmother passed away. Yesterday was her birthday, so it felt like a good time to share some of my favorites with you.
This first one is so perfectly my grandparents. They both lived with a very strong faith in the Lord. I don't think they ever missed church. I love it for that reason and also I love that it's two piece put together.
My grandmother also had quite a few "critter" salt and pepper shakers. Cats, elephants, sheep, birds, dogs, etc. You name it, she had it. These snails are adorable. I love the strawberries on their shells that's why they're facing the other direction.
Also, my grandma had a knack for being serious. She wasn't a fan of getting anything but a "nice" birthday card. I think that's why I love these so much. I also can remember her showing them off after she got them. They crack me up.
Other favorites include these weird potatoes because...WHY?! I'm sure she used them for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
These little guys are so precious. I also love them because they're not just from my grandmother's collection, but from her mother's. It's nice to know that I'm carrying on a three generation collection.
Then there's this darling. My absolute favorite piece in the collection. It's a TV that when you turn the dial the top S & P pop up. I love TV and I love my grandma, so I was extremely happy to get this one as well.
Overall I have about 70 pieces in the collection. Not all of them fit on that corner cabinet, but we've found other places to display them. Hopefully someday I'll have someone to pass these down to.
